1oz gold Queen’s Beasts Griffin of Edward III bullion coin. The Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beasts series was inspired by the heraldic creatures that populate the coats of arms of Her Majesty’s royal and noble ancestors. A runaway success for The Royal Mint, their beastly coin series included ten designs, plus a ‘completer’, released between 2016 and 2021. The Griffin - known for guarding treasure - was an important symbol to medieval king Edward III whose birthplace, Windsor Castle, appears on the shield clutched in the beast’s talons. Jody Clark is the artist behind this design as well as the obverse portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. This coin features the textured background fields typical of bullion Queen’s Beasts coins but the design was also available on proof pieces. It’s composed of 31.10 grams of 999.9 fine gold and has a diameter of 32.69 millimetres. It has a face value of £100 / One Hundred Pounds. This coin does not come with any additional Royal Mint packaging but we’ll wrap it securely and discretely for delivery.
