Buy a 2016 Shakespeare's Tragedies £2 Gold Proof

Gold proof William Shakespeare's Tragedies £2 coin from The Royal Mint. This highly collectable coin is from a three-part collection, released in 2016, that celebrates England's greatest writer and dramatist 400 years on from his death in 1616. Shakespeare's plays are often divided into Comedies, Histories and Tragedies. The Tragic plays include some of the playwright's best-known works, like Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Macbeth, and Hamlet. These works are represented here by a rose and skull motif created by John Bergdahl in a nod to Hamlet's Yorick. This popular commemorative design was also used on coins released into circulation but is seen to its best advantage on this 22-carat gold proof piece. The Royal Mint offered just 300 of these Shakespeare's Tragedies £2 coins in this limited edition presentation. Your pre-owned example comes with its original presentation packaging and a numbered certificate of authenticity.
