Anne was queen of England, Scotland and Ireland between 1702 and 1707. Under the 1707 Acts of Union she became monarch of Great Britain, ruling until her death in 1714. It’ the 300th anniversary of her passing that is commemorated with this coin from The Royal Mint. There’s a queen on either side of this Five Pound piece: the obverse shows Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Elizabeth II while the reverse shows a small bust of Queen Anne in a decorative frame by Mark Richards. This design incorporates a tiny coat of royal arms, as used by the Stuart monarchs before 1707. The legend around the design reads ‘QUEEN ANNE DEI GRATIA 1665-1714’. This gold proof £5 Crown is struck in 39.94 grams of 22 carat gold. It has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and comes from a limited issue of just 253 offered by The Royal Mint. This example has been graded PF 70 Ultra Cameo by the Numismatic Guaranty Company. It comes in its secure NGC holder.
