2012 Struck On The Day Brilliant Uncirculated Gold Sovereign Diamond Jubilee

2012 Struck On The Day Sovereign Diamond Jubilee Boxed
(VAT Exempt)
One of just 2,012 gold Sovereigns struck on 2 June 2012: the first day of Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. In Britain we marked sixty years since Queen Elizabeth II succeeded to the throne with a royal tour, a jubilee pagent and an extra bank holiday, plus a range of commemorative Royal Mint coinage. This Sovereign features a special reverse design, authorised for the Diamond Jubilee year. It’s a reinterpretation of the classic St George and the dragon reverse, created in 1817 by Benedetto Pistrucci. This version is the work of Paul Day whose Drago curls around the surface of the coin, caught on St George’s lance. It’s a dynamic design, used only on Sovereigns issued in 2012. This is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen to the obverse, the fourth such portrait used on her coinage since her accession to the throne in 1952. Like all ‘full’ Sovereigns, this one is struck in 7.98 grams of 22 carat gold, equating to an actual gold weight of 7.31 grams or 0.2354 troy ounces. ‘Struck on the Day’ Sovereigns typically come with a brilliant uncirculated finish and this one is no different. This 2022 coin comes in its original glossy wooden presentation case and numbered certificate of authenticity but without the blue card outer box pictured.
