This set, assembled in 2004, includes two old gold currency coins from Britain and France, struck in the year that the Entente Cordiale was signed.
While British gold Sovereigns are struck in 7.98 grams of 22-carat gold and measure 22 millimetres in diameter, French 20 Franc coins are minted in approximately 6.45 grams of .900 (90%) gold and are slightly smaller, measuring 21 millimetres.
Both of the 1904-dated coins in this set are well-preserved historic currency coins and have previously been in circulation, meaning that they may display age-typical signs of wear, including scratches and edge dings.
The Royal Mint collected and assembled these sets in 2004 to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1904 Entente Cordiale. Just 600 such sets were released, alongside a collection of Crown-sized commemorative coins.
These coins are supplied individually encapsulated in a small brown leather case from The Royal Mint, complete with an information booklet which is numbered to act as a certificate of authenticity.
