Exclusive two-coin 1904 gold set, assembled by The Royal Mint in 2004 to mark 100 years of the Entente Cordiale. The Entente Cordiale of 1904 ended Britain and France's historic rivalry and ushered in a lasting diplomatic partnership that remains important today. In addition to a collection of £5 Crown coins, the UK's national mint also released 600 of these historic gold coin sets, which feature real gold coins that were struck in the same year the Entente was signed. Each set includes a 1904 Edward VII gold Sovereign, minted in London, paired with a gold 20 Franc coin, struck at the Monnaie de Paris. These historic currency coins are presented in an attractive, velvet-lined display case, complete with an information booklet. A fascinating commemorative set.

1904 Entente Cordial Gold Set

This set, assembled in 2004, includes two old gold currency coins from Britain and France, struck in the year that the Entente Cordiale was signed.

Historic Solid Gold 1904 Coins

While British gold Sovereigns are struck in 7.98 grams of 22-carat gold and measure 22 millimetres in diameter, French 20 Franc coins are minted in approximately 6.45 grams of .900 (90%) gold and are slightly smaller, measuring 21 millimetres.

Collecting Old Currency

Both of the 1904-dated coins in this set are well-preserved historic currency coins and have previously been in circulation, meaning that they may display age-typical signs of wear, including scratches and edge dings.

Assembled By The Royal Mint

The Royal Mint collected and assembled these sets in 2004 to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1904 Entente Cordiale. Just 600 such sets were released, alongside a collection of Crown-sized commemorative coins.

Commemorative Boxed Set

These coins are supplied individually encapsulated in a small brown leather case from The Royal Mint, complete with an information booklet which is numbered to act as a certificate of authenticity.
