Jubilee Head 1887 gold Half Sovereign, struck at the London branch of the Royal Mint in the year of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

In 1887, Victoria marked fifty years since her accession to the throne. In the same year, a controversial Jubilee Head portrait was introduced for use on her coinage, designed by Joseph Edgar Boehm and showing the Queen wearing a small crown and a long lace veil.

  • These 1887 Half Sovereigns pair Boehm's effigy with the classic crowned shield Half Sovereign reverse
  • Records indicate that 841,200 of these historic British coins were struck in solid 22-carat gold
