Commemorative set from The Royal Mint featuring Old Money and decimal coins, issued in 1996 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Decimal Day.
In 1971, the United Kingdom officially adopted decimal currency, abandoning the old '£sd' system. In the ensuing years, Old Money like Halfcrowns, Shillings and Sixpences were withdrawn from circulation, replaced entirely by £1 coins and 50ps. This 14-coin collector's set celebrates that momentous moment of monetary transition, pairing historic £sd coins from the 1960s with modern UK currency, issued in 1996.

This collectors set from The Royal Mint was released in 1996 to celebrate 25 years since Decimal Day, when the UK officially abandoned the old £sd 'Old Money' system in favour of the decimal currency we use today.
This set includes real examples of Old Money coins from the 1960s, including some of the final examples struck for circulation. These coins have now been demonetised, but many will remember using these coins daily.
Inside you will find high-quality examples of a Halfcrown, Florin, Shilling, Sixpence, Threepence, Penny and Halfpenny, all featuring a youthful portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the heads side, designed by Mary Gillick.
These old coins are paired with a more modern, uncirculated currency set from 1996, including a £1, 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p, all showing the definitive designs in use at the time, including the classic Britannia motif on the Fifty Pence.
This pre-owned collectable coin set is housed in a protective pull-out folder which includes a fold-out information booklet, packed with information about Old Money and the road to decimalisation.
