2011 One Pound with classic Royal Shield design, created by Matthew Dent - a now withdrawn UK coin.

In 2011, The Royal Mint released three different £1 coins into circulation, including two from the Capital Cities collection: the Cardiff £1 and the Edinburgh £1. These coins feature the standard Royal Shield of Arms design, introduced in 2008.

  • Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of 2011 Royal Shield £1s
  • The edge reads 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN', meaning 'An ornament and a safeguard'
  • 25,415,000 of these round, nickel-brass One Pound coins were issued for circulation in 2011
