2011 Cardiff One Pound Circulated Capital Cities Coin

The second rarest UK One Pound - the 2011 Cardiff Capital Cities £1 from a mintage of just 1,615,000 coins issued by The Royal Mint.

The four coins in the Capital Cities collection (released 2010-2011) were designed by Stuart Devlin. The 2011 Cardiff coin was inspired by the coat of arms for Wales' capital city, which shows the Red Dragon of Wales holding a banner and a flowering leek.

• The obverse shows Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II
• The edge reads 'Y DDRAIG GOCH DDYRY CYCHWYN', translating from Welsh to 'The red dragon will give the lead'
• All old round Pounds were removed from circulation in 2017, including these low-mintage Cardiff £1 coins
