2008 Royal Arms Shield One Pound Circulated Coin

2008 round, nickel-brass UK One Pound coin featuring the Royal Shield reverse and now withdrawn from circulation.

2008 saw the introduction of new standard designs for all seven UK currency coins, created by Matthew Dent. His £1 design shows a simple Shield of Royal Arms, while the other coins show portions of the shield that can be arranged together like a puzzle.

• Two different £1s were issued in 2008 - this and the old 2008 Royal Arms £1 designed by Eric Sewell
• The edge of these coins reads 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN' ('An ornament and a safeguard')
