Three Lions 2002 UK One Pound: part of a mini-series of circulating £1 coins from The Royal Mint celebrating UK national emblems.

Between 1994 and 2002, British Pound coins featured four alternating designs representing England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland with designs by Norman Sillman. These 2002 £1 coins show three lions passant - an important heraldic symbol of England.

  • The design was also used on 1997 £1 coins, but with a different portrait of Queen Elizabeth II
  • The edge of Three Lions coins reads 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN' - 'An ornament and a safeguard'
  • 77,818,000 of these round, nickel-brass 2002 One Pound coins were issued by The Royal Mint
