Rare, collectable Scottish edition Two Pound coin, one of two released by The Royal Mint in 1989. This £2 celebrates 300 years since Scottish lawmakers agreed the Claim Of Rights in the aftermath of the Glorious Revolution. This piece of legislation declared that King James II - known as James VII in Scotland - had forfeited the throne. This opened the way for the Scottish and English parliaments to invite William of Orange and his wife, Mary, to become joint monarchs: an important moment in British constitutional history. Another coin was issued to celebrate the tercentenary of the English Bill of Rights but the Scottish Claim of Right coin has a much lower mintage of just 381,400, making this the rarest circulating UK £2 ever! This rarer variant reads ‘TERCENTENARY OF THE CLAIM OF RIGHT’ and features the Crown of Scotland. The coin was created by watercolourist and coin designer John Lobban. The heads side shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf, used on UK money minted between 1985 and 1997. Nickel-brass Two Pounds like this one were created for coin collectors to celebrate important national occasions. They’re still legal tender but since the new bi-metallic Two Pounds were introduced they can no longer be found in tills or pockets. We’ve got these scarce British coins in stock with each example carefully selected and guaranteed to be in good condition. Secure one for your collection now.
