1989 UK Two Pound coin celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Bill Of Rights. In 1688 English Parliamentarians invited William of Orange to invade and overthrow the Catholic King James II, forcing him into exile: an event known as the Glorious Revolution. The following year, Parliament invited William and his wife, James’ daughter, Mary, to become joint monarchs. The Bill Of Rights set the terms on which the new King and Queen would rule, limiting their powers and establishing the rights of Parliament. The Royal Mint’s 1989 coin commemorates this important piece of legislation with a design by John Lobban. Lobban includes William and Mary’s combined ‘WM’ cypher and St Edward’s Crown. A similar Two Pound coin was issued in the same year to celebrate the 1689 Claim Of Right, the corresponding Scottish Act. Neither coin can be found in circulation anymore, not since the first bimetallic £2s were released. 4,392,825 of these nickel-brass coins were produced by The Royal Mint, intended for collectors. Our stock of Bill Of Rights Two Pounds are all in excellent condition, hand-picked and posted for free to UK addresses. Add this old £2 to your collection today.
