The Before, Beyond, Above 2017 £2, a Royal Mint WW1 Centenary release. This edition of the Mint’s poignant commemoration for those who fought for Britain in World War One concerns the brave airmen who were among the first to take to the skies in a combat capacity. The reverse of this coin, celebrating the Royal Flying Corps, is designed by Daniel Flashman. On it, a wooden plane is shown, as its cargo is released to the warzone below. A poignant edge inscription reads ‘The Sky Rained Heroes’. The WW1 Aviation £2 is struck in cupronickel and nickelabrass, weighs 12.00 grams, and features the bust of Elizabeth II on its obverse side. Notably, this UK coin is struck to a collectable and commemorative BU finish. Included with your Aviation £2 is the original folder: an overall presentation endorsed by Imperial War Museums. This is a pre-owned example from the World War One Centenary series, as this release is no longer available new.

Obverse: WW1 Aviation £2

This 2017 £2, struck 100 years after the first planes flew overhead in WW1, holds Elizabeth II’s definitive portrait on the obverse. Surrounding Jody Clark’s sculpture is a legend. 

Before, Beyond, Above Reverse 

The reverse of the poignant Before, Above, Beyond £2 depicts a wooden plane flying over a group of fields. A serviceman drops the plane’s cargo to the ground below. The legend outlines the years of the conflict - ‘1914 - 1918’ - as well as the subject: ‘THE WAR IN THE AIR’. A profound edge inscription reads ‘The Sky Rained Heroes’. 

Royal Mint Aviation £2 Specification 

This collectable edition of the First World War Aviation £2 enjoys a brilliant uncirculated finish intended for military history and coin enthusiasts. The alloys used to strike this 12.00 gram coin are cupronickel and nickelbrass, the latter of which runs around the coin’s 28.40 millimetre edge.
