This 2015 BUnc Five Pound coin celebrates HM Queen Elizabeth II becoming the United Kingdom's longest reigning monarch. She achieved this feat by overtaking her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. In February 1952, Queen Elizabeth II was in Kenya when she acceded to the throne following the death of her father, King George VI. Her coronation followed 16 months later on the 2nd June, 1953. The ceremony was the first to be televised live, and the following seven decades of her reign have been similarly characterised by technological advances. The Queen's portrait on the Crown's obverse is a rare commemorative design by James Butler, unique to certain coins issued in 2015. Butler made his name as a sculptor but he has worked with the Royal Family before, designing the Great Seal of the Realm in 2001. His design veers towards the traditional and depicts Saint Edward's Crown, framed either side at the top by the year dates '1952' and '2015'. 1952 is the year Princess Elizabeth became the Sovereign, and 2015 the year she surpassed Queen Victoria in becoming Britain's longest serving monarch. Your £5 coin will be encased in a protective capsule, which in turn will be attached to an attractive Royal Mint presentation folder. The cupro-nickel coin weighs 28.28 grams and measures 38.61 millimetres in diameter. It's struck twice during production, which stands apart from normal coinage which is only struck once. A wonderful royal tribute to Britain's longest reigning Sovereign.
