Royal Mint Fifty Pence coin in brilliant uncirculated condition, celebrating 50 years of The World Wildlife Fund. The WWF is the world's largest conservation organisation, working to 'stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature'. The WWF was founded in 1961 as a means of funding existing conservation groups. Their initial focus on protecting endangered animals is represented in their highly recognisable panda logo. 2011 marked the fiftieth anniversary of the Fund and, to celebrate the global achievements of the organisation, The Royal Mint issued this commemorative Fifty Pence piece design. It's the work of British graphic designer, Matthew Dent who would later create the shield design used on the reverse of coins of the the pound sterling from 2008 onwards. His World Wildlife Fund design features 50 icons of plants, animals and natural resources, representing the projects and programmes that the World Wildlife Fund has invested in and supported. Dent's reverse is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This example is struck in 8.00 grams of curpo-nickel alloy, struck twice during the production process to give a sharper finish compared to coins found in your change. The specifications of this coin are the same as a regular circulation 50p: a 27.30 millimetre diameter and a 1.78 millimetre thickness. This pre-owned coin is offered in its original packaging from The Royal Mint, which consists of an attractive slipcase in which the coin is housed.
