Buy a 2011 Aquatics 50p BU (Lines Over Face)

Rare Olympic Swimming 50p with lines over the face error design. These coins were released by The Royal Mint ahead of the 2012 London Olympics and feature a design by Jonathan Oliffe showing a swimmer moving through the water, represented by wavy lines. While standard 2011 Swimming 50p coins are fairly common, a sought-after variant features a notable design detail: lines over the swimmer's face. Ordinary Aquatics 50p coins do not have such lines. Supposedly, just 600 coins with the 'lines over the face' detail were issued before the design was changed. That makes these coins among the rarest base-metal Fifty Pence coins ever issued, with authenticated examples highly sought after by serious collectors. This example is supplied sealed in the original Royal Mint card.

Olympic Swimming 50p

This Aquatics coin was one of 29 Fifty Pences issued by The Royal Mint ahead of the London Olympics. Jonathan Oliffe's design shows a swimmer moving through the water with '50 PENCE' below and the 2012 Olympics logo above.

Lines Over The Face Error

Millions of standard Aquatics 50p coins were issued in 2011, but only around 600 feature an alternate early design which shows lines over the swimmer's face (the regular 50p has no lines). Genuine examples are highly sought-after.

Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II

The obverse of this error coin features Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, used on currency from 1998 to 2015. The legend reads 'ELIZABETH · II · D · G REG · F · D  · 2011'.

Brilliant Uncirculated Coin

Brilliant uncirculated coins are struck in small batches with hand-prepared dies, ensuring a superior finish compared to their standard counterparts. Otherwise, this Fifty Pence is the same size and weight as a standard coin.

Original Royal Mint Card

This rare collectable is supplied in the original card from The Royal Mint. The built-in capsule protects the coin's surface from damage, and the back offers information about the coin's design and specification.
