75th Birthday Of The Princess Royal
Born on 15 August 1950, Princess Anne is the second child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and the younger sister of King Charles III. In 1987, her mother bestowed her with the title of Princess Royal.
A working member of the royal family for more than 50 years, Princess Anne has carried out tens of thousands of engagements across the UK and around the world and is a patron of more than 300 organisations. Known for her direct manner and tireless work ethic, Anne is also a respected equestrian and the first British royal to compete in the Olympic Games.
In 2025, the Princess Royal will celebrate her 75th birthday. To mark this important royal milestone, The Royal Mint has authorised the release of a collection of commemorative UK coins, the first to feature Princess Anne in her own right, in recognition of a lifetime of public service.
First Official UK Princess Anne Coin
The Royal Mint's Princess Anne coins have been carefully developed and personally approved by Her Royal Highness.
Denominated at Five Pounds, coins in the 2025 Princess Royal collection feature her official Coat of Arms and a portrait bust engraved by Thomas T Docherty and inspired by an official photograph taken by respected photographer John Swannell, a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. Anne is shown wearing her Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara, earrings and an elaborate necklace with the words 'THE PRINCESS ROYAL' above and 'CELEBRATING 75 YEARS · DUTY AND DEVOTION' below.
The obverse side of each coin in this range carries the official coinage portrait of Princess Anne's sibling, King Charles III, created by sculptor Martin Jennings and first used on UK coins in 2022. The inscription around His Majesty's portrait reads: 'CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 5 POUNDS · 2025', confirming the coin's legal tender status.
The 2025 Princess Anne Coin Collection
