Limited edition 1974 sterling silver proof Panamanian 20 Balboas commemorative coin. The Balboa is one of the official currencies of Panama, alongside the United States Dollar and takes its name from the Spanish conquistador, Vasco Núñez de Balboa. At the time of issue, these 20 Balboas coins were the world's largest legal tender silver coins, containing nearly four troy ounces of silver. Their design honours Simón Bolívar, who led Panama and other Latin American countries to independence from the Spanish Empire. A portrait of Bolivar appears on the reverse, paired with the coat of arms of Panama shownon the obverse. Produced by the Franklin Mint, these collectable coins are struck in 129.59 grams with a proof finish. Our pre-owned 20 Balboa coins are offered in their original presentation cases, and dated certificates are enclosed.
