The obverse of these silver coins features Sudan's national symbol (a secretary bird bearing a shield), with the Gregorian (1976) and Islamic calendar dates (1396) on either side.
The hippopotamus design that appears on the reverse of these coins was designed by Norman Sillman and the inscription below reads '٥ جنيهات' ('Five Pounds').
These Sudanese coins are struck in 35 grams of .925 sterling silver and are denominated at Five Pounds. They feature a proof finish and measure 42 millimetres in diameter.
Like many historic silver collector's coins, these pre-owned Sudan coins may show signs of toning. They are supplied in a presentation case with a certificate of authenticity enclosed.
