Obverse: facing bust of Gaafar Muhammad an-Nimeiry, fourth Sudanese head of state, 'العيد الخامس والعشرون للاستقلال' above with 'جمهورية السودان الديمقراطية' below and the anniversary dates to either side (1956-1981). Reverse: Sudanese independence monument in front of the presidential palace, '25TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE' above, and 'D.R.
