Buy a 2013 Mercury $50 Silver Cylinder Proof Coin

The first cylinder shaped coin ever struck! This limited edition coin from the Mint of Poland features the image of the Roman god Mercury: the god of wealth, commerce and communication. The design by Urszula Walerzak features an inset portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as cartographic elements symbolising travel and trade. The other side shows a map of the galaxy with the image of a gold coin, adorned with an effigy of Mercury. It’s the edge that’s the real star of this 2013 collectable though. Turn the 22.10 millimetre high surface and you’ll see Mercurys winged sandals, set against a map of the world. Issued by the island nation of Niue, this piece is struck in six troy ounces (186.62 grams) of solid 999 fine silver with gold detail. This selective gilding makes an already unique coin truly beautiful, adding contrast depth to the design. Just 2,500 of these Fortuna Redux coins have been authorised for issue worldwide and this pre-owned example comes in its original, bespoke display case, sealed in its custom capsule. Inside the box you’ll also find a numbered certificate of authenticity and a gift card to add your message. A truly unusual piece and a great talking point.
