This commemorative set includes two piedfort silver proof coins from The Royal Mint.
Designed by Mary Milner Dickens, this 1992-1993 dated coin was issued to mark the UK's Presidency of the Council of European Community Ministers and the completion of the Single Market. The design shows a table with 12 stars.
This coin commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day, featuring a design by John Mills that depicts Allied forces storming the beaches of Normandy by air and sea. The obverse displays Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Piedfort coins are double the thickness and twice the weight of their standard counterparts, with each of these Fifty Pence coins struck in 27.00 grams of sterling silver. These are old-size 50ps, measuring 30.00 millimetres in diameter.
This pre-owned collectors set is supplied in the original presentation case. According to the certificate of authenticity, only 1,500 of these sets were authorised for release by The Royal Mint in 1994.
