Buy a 1989 Claim Of Right £2 Silver Proof

Collectable silver proof 1989 Claim of Right £2 coin from The Royal Mint. This coin was issued to mark the 300th anniversary of the Claim of Right 1689, a foundational document of UK and Scottish constitutional law. The Claim asserted parliamentary power by decreeing a Protestant succession, with the crown of Scotland offered to William and Mary in preference to James VII and II in the aftermath of the Glorious Revolution. The UK's national mint issued this coin alongside a partner piece celebrating the tercentenary of the English Bill of Rights. The reverse design here is by John Lobban and shows a parliamentary mace with a Scottish crown above and the anniversary dates below. Struck in solid .925 sterling silver, this is a desirable piece, available in the scarce individual presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed.

Made From 925 Sterling Silver

Before 1997, UK £2 coins were made exclusively for collectors without the distinctive bi-metallic appearance of later issues. This 1989 Two Pound is struck in 15.98 grams of solid .925 sterling silver with a high-shine proof finish.

Limited Edition Collectable

Records indicate that 24,852 silver proof Claim of Right coins from a maximum mintage of 25,000 were issued in 1989, though experience suggests that these individually boxed coins are scarcer than the figures indicate.
