Buy a 1644 Charles I Hammered Silver Halfcrown Bristol Mint

A scarce hammered silver Halfcrown, struck at the Bristol mint in 1644 during the First English Civil War. This mint was only used between 1643 and 1645, making coins struck there scarce and sought after. The obverse shows a crowned Charles I on horseback, riding left, sword upright in his right hand and a Shrewsbury style plume in the field behind. The reverse bears the Wellington Declaration: Charles’ manifesto which, translated from Latin, reads: ‘The Protestant Religion, the Laws of England, and the Liberty of Parliament’. Three plumes – the Bristol Feathers - appear above, distinctive of this mint. Date below, no ‘Br’. The mint at Bristol would cease operations when the city surrendered the year after this coin was minted. Spink 3007.
