Buy a 1560-1561 Elizabeth I Hammered Silver Penny MM Cross Crosslet

A hammered silver Penny of Queen Elizabeth the First with a Cross Crosslet mint mark, indicating that this coin was struck in 1560 or 1561 at the Tower Mint. From Elizabeth’s second issue. The obverse features the crowned bust of the queen facing left without the rose behind. The reverse shows a long cross quartered shield of royal arms with no date above the shield. The arms feature English lions and French fleur-de-lis, symbolising Elizabeth’s claim to the French throne. Her successor, James I would add symbols of Scotland and Ireland. Spink 2558.
