A rare and collectable hammered silver Groat of king Edward the Fourth, struck in the name of his father, Henry VIII, at the Tower mint in London between 1547 and 1551. The obverse of this posthumous issue features a crowned bust of Henry VII, facing forward and slightly right. The reverse shows a long cross with suns in the forks, quartering a royal shield of arms. A Rose mint mark can be clearly seen. These early, debased coins of Edward VI are hard to find in very high grades, especially from the provincial mints. The number of die variations makes these coins fascinating to collect and study.
