Sun and Rose issue (1478-1483) Penny of Edward IV, minted in Dublin. Obverse: facing crowned bust with alternating suns and roses at either side of neck and head, within beaded circle. Legend illegible. Reverse: long cross quartering beaded circle with small rose at centre. Rose and two suns in two quarters, two roses and a single sun in the others. Text impossible to read. This is one of a range of innovative designs produced in Ireland in the late 1400s during a period when minting activity was decentralised in Ireland. This coin weighs 0.56 grams and has a diameter of 13.5 millimetres. Grade: VF+ - Characteristically irregular, too small flan, very impressive portrait and centre reverse details with iridescent reverse tone: Good Very Fine with much eye appeal. S 6395.
