The United States Mint first issued a palladium Eagle coin in 2017, seven years after the US Congress passed a law permitting the issue of palladium coinage. Only a bullion coin was released, but in 2018 a proof edition with a West Point mintmark was unveiled alongside the bullion version. The issue of palladium coins proved to be incredibly popular with coin collectors and investors alike, with the 2018 proof palladium Eagle selling out at the US Mint in less than five minutes when it was put on sale on the 6th September, 2018. Like other modern precious metal coins from the United States, these collectable palladium coins feature an adaptation of the American bald eagle on the reverse and Lady Liberty on the obverse. Both sides of the coin were designed by the renowned German-American engraver Adolph Weinman. US numismatic enthusiasts will note the obverse design is a rendition of the Mercury dime issued from 1916 to 1945, with the reverse being a copy of the concept behind the 1907 American Institute of Architects gold medal. Specifications of this inaugural palladium coin are a diameter of 34.04 millimetres and a weight of 31.12 grams. It contain exactly one troy ounce of pure palladium. During the production process, the coin is struck several times to give it its top-quality proof appearance. Each coin is offered in a grey leather presentation box with satin lining as standard, accompanied by the official certificate of authenticity. Only 14,986 were minted in this limited edition presentation. Available with free shipping to UK addresses.
