1937 was the first year that nickel-brass Threepences were issued in Britain, alongside their smaller silver counterparts.

Originally planned for King Edward VIII's reign, the new brass coinage was ultimately minted for King George VI, whose uncrowned portrait by Humphrey Paget appears on the obverse. The reverse features Frances Madge Kitchener's iconic stylised thrift plant design.

  • Twelve-sided coin minted for circulation in the year of George VI's Coronation
  • One of 45,707,957 nickel-brass 3d coins struck at the Royal Mint in London
