Matching 1895 Queen Victoria Maundy money set. This set contains a Maundy Fourpence, Threepence, Twopence and Penny, all dated 1895. The obverse of these coins displays the widowed head portrait of Victoria, designed by Thomas Brock, introduced to British coinage in 1893 and scaled for the size of each denomination. The reverse features a crowned numeral within a wreath, a motif first used during the reign of William and Mary hardly altered since 1822. By this point in Victoria’s reign, royal Maundy was being distributed at Westminster Abbey in the name of the Queen, rather than by her hand as is practiced today. This four part set is offered in a contemporary Spink & Son case with blue velvet and satin lining and interior gold printing. The box is made from leather covered wood with a clasp. Grade: UNC - This matching set features a rich, dark patina with an attractive, reflective background colour.
