Buy a 1893 Victoria Proof Sixpence 2+A PF 63+

from
£495.00
A scarce Proof silver Sixpence of Queen Victoria, dated 1893. The obverse features the older, coroneted veiled and draped bust of the Queen, facing left, affectionally known as the ‘Old Head’ by sculptor and medallist Thomas Brock. The reverse shows the denomination - ‘SIX PENCE’ - at the centre, surrounded by branches of laurel (left) and oak (right), tied below with a ribbon, the work of Jean Baptiste Merlen. This very high grade slabbed Sixpence has the most amazing reflective, blue toned background making an attractive contrast with the bust details. It’s a hard effect to catch on camera, particularly within the capsule. With a low mintage of just 1,312 and a rarer die combination (2+A) it would be a challenge to find a more appealing coin. Spink 3941, Davies 1181.
