1893 Victoria Proof Shilling 2+A Large Lettering PF 61

1893 Victoria Silver Proof Shilling 2+A Large Lettering PF 61 Slabbed

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A scarcer proof silver Shilling of Queen Victoria, dated 1893: the first year of what is known as her Old Head coinage. The obverse of this coin features the old veiled and draped bust of the queen, facing left. The lettering of the legend is comparatively large. This portrait, introduced in this year is the work of the medallist and sculptor Thomas Brock. The obverse shows three crowned shields, representing England, Scotland and Ireland with national flower emblems in the spaces between. Its worth studying the English rose carefully: its smaller than on other coins of this issue. These shillings are numerous in high grades making them affordable while the range of die combinations and variations makes them fascinating to study. Spink 3940, Davies 1011.
