A silver Crown of Queen Victoria, dated 1893. The obverse features the veiled and coroneted Old Head portrait which shows the queen wearing a necklace and garter star, facing left. This is the work of the medallist and sculptor Thomas Brock. The reverse shows the iconic image of a sword-wielding Saint George, slaying a dragon which cowers beneath his horses’ hooves. The initials ‘B.P.’ appear below the dragon, identifying the artist as Benedetto Pistrucci. The date appears below. The edge of this Crown reads ‘DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI LVI’ in raised lettering, indicating the regnal year (Victoria’s 56th) in which this coin was struck. Spink 3937, Davies 501.

Saint George on horseback, armed with a sword slaying a dragon under foot. Date and initials - 'B.P.' - in exergue, identifying the engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci.

Raised lettering: 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN . ANNO REGNI LVI'.

Grade

This coin has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation as MS 62 (NGC Cert # 6029966-013).

A grade of MS 62 indicates a Mint State or About Uncirculated coin with an average or slightly weak strike but no traces of wear. These pieces might have more or larger abrasions than MS/PF 63 coins.
