Jubilee Head 1889 Victorian silver Crown coins, ready to add to your collection (S 3921, Bull 2589, ESC 299). The year 1899 saw the construction of the Eiffel Tower, the invention of pizza and the publication of the first issue of the Wall Street Journal. In London, the Royal Mint, then based on Tower Hill, struck 1,807,223 sterling silver Crown coins for circulation. Each of these Crowns featured a portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse. The so-called Jubilee Head was introduced in 1887 and only used for a handful of years. The reverse of the 1889 Crowns featured a design with staying power: Benedetto Pistrucci's Saint George and the dragon engraving, created in 1817 and still in use today.
