Young Head silver Sixpence of Queen Victoria, dated 1886. Obverse: features type A5 uncrowned, left-facing portrait bust, original by William Wyon: longer waves, no lock of hair on cheek, bound with double fillet. Legend reads: VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR : REG : F : D :’. Distinct dot appears within the ‘D’ of ‘DEI’ - very unusual. Reverse: ‘SIX PENCE’ in centre with crown above, surrounded by wreath of oak and laurel leaves, tied at the bottom with a ribbon. Date (1886) below though no die number. The engraver behind this design is Jean Baptiste Merlen. Milled edge. Weight: 2.83 grams, diameter: 19.3 millimetres. Grade: EF - A very light tone with a dark spot to the obverse, some minor surface marks and hairlines visible under magnification - Extremely Fine or nearly so. Spink 3912.
