Victorian silver Shilling, dated 1870: die number 15. Obverse: third Young Head, type A6. Portrait originally by William Wyon but not initials to truncation of neck. Left facing, hair bound back in two fillets. Legend around reads: ‘VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR : REG : F : D :’. Reverse: ‘ONE SHILLING’ within wreath of oak and olive leaves, tied with ribbon. Crown above and date at bottom (1870) with die number just above this. Artist: Jean Baptiste Merlen. Edge: Milled. Borders: toothed. This coin weighs 5.66 grams and has a diameter across of 23.5 millimetres. Grade: GVF - Bright with some toning, a few contact marks and hairlines visible under magnification, otherwise Very Fine or slightly better. Spink 3906A.
