Victorian silver Shilling dated 1866. Obverse: second type A4 Young Head portrait of Queen Victoria, facing left with hair bound by double fillet. No initials to truncation of neck but the work, originally, of William Wyon. Legend: ‘VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR: REG: F: D:’. Reverse: ‘ONE SHILLING’ within wreath of olive and oak leaves, tied at the bottom with a ribbon, crown above. Date at base (1866) with die number above: 5. Rare, not listed in Bull (3027, otherwise). The reverse design is attributed to Jean Baptiste Merlen. Weight: 5.66 grams, diameter: 23.5 millimetres. Grade: AEF - A bright tone with a hint of colour, obverse scratches around ‘BRITANNIAR’ with hairlines and contact marks under magnification: about Extremely Fine. Spink 3904.
