Buy a 1826 King George IV Copper Farthing Coin GEORGIUS IIII

from
£70.00
A copper Farthing of king George the Fourth, dated 1826 from his first issue. The obverse features the laureate, draped head of the king, facing left with thirteen leaves in his wreath. The legend reads ‘GEORGIUS IIII’ rather than ‘GEORGIUS IV’, used later. The reverse shows the figure of Britannia, seated in flowing robes and holding a trident, shield and olive branch. Her shield displays a Union Jack design. Not immediately visible and often unnoticed is the head and paws of a lion, seated behind her at her feet. The date appears below and in this example the ‘1’ of ‘1826’ appears lower than the other numerals and is missing its top serif. A highly graded example. Spink 3822.
