Copper Farthing of George IV, dated 1822. Obverse: laureate bust of George IV, facing left, draped. 13 leaves on wreath which is bound with a ribbon at the back which extends with two loose ends behind George’s neck. In this variant the leaves have a raised midrib, rather than an incuse one. Legend: ‘GEORGIUS III | DEI GRATIA.’. The Royal Mint resumed minted copper Farthings after a decades long break in 1821, the year before this coin was issued. Their production had stopped in 1775 though copper coins had been struck in the interim at the Soho Mint. This coin weighs 4.54 grams and has a diameter of 22.00 millimetres. Grade: A UNC - A rich mid chocolate brown, no problems for the grade of About Uncirculated. Spink 3822, Peck 1409.
