A superb silver Halfcrown of King George the Second, dated 1739. The obverse shows the young, laureate head of the king, facing left. He’s dressed in armour with a lion’s face to the shoulder. The reverse features crowned cruciform shields of royal arms, representing Great Britain, France, Ireland and the House of Hanover. Roses appear in the angles and a garter star in the centre of the shields. George II was the second British monarch of the House of Hanover. The Hanovarians ruled Britain and Ireland from the accession of George I in 1714 to two the death of Queen Victoria in 1901. Graded EF, this Halfcrown would be an excellent addition to any collection. Spink 3693.
