Charles II silver Shilling dated 1663. Obverse: first laureate bust of the king with double top leaves to wreath, facing right. Legend around reads: ‘CAROLVS · II · DEI · GRATIA’. Reverse: garter star in centre with crowned cruciform shields of royal arms with interlinked double C cypher in the angles. Date - 1663 - divided by crown as is legend which reads: ‘MAG · | BR · FRA · | ET · HIB · | REX ·’. 1663 was the first year of Charles II’s reign in which a milled Shilling was issued in England. Issues would continue right through until the denomination was discontinued in 1971. This example weighs 5.92 grams and has a diameter of 25.5 millimetres. Grade: VF - Even medium grey tone with a few surface scratches to obverse hair, reverse better - approaching Very Fine. S 3372.
