A collectable silver Crown of king Charles the Second, dated 1663. The obverse features the First laureate bust of the king facing right, with rare variation in which the upper tie in Charles’ hair points to the ‘O’ and an extra curl appears in his hair before the ‘C’ in his name. The reverse shows crowned cruciform shields around a central garter star, the shields representing the arms of England, Scotland, France and Ireland. Interlinked Cs appear in the angles of the shields. The edge shows the regnal year - ‘XV’ - in raised lettering. These early Crowns, struck in the first decade of milled coinage production, are highly collectible and this is an interesting example. It weighs 29.50 grams and has a diameter of 39.50 millimetres. Grade: AF/F - Light tone with darker tone in the background no real issues for about Fine, reverse better. S 3354.
