1662 Charles II Silver Crown Dated Edge

1662 Charles II Silver Crown Dated Edge Obverse

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A collectable silver Crown of king Charles the Second, dated 1679. The obverse features the first laureate, draped bust of Charles II, facing right with a small rose below. The reverse shows crowned cruciform shields around a central garter star, the shields representing the arms of England, Scotland and Ireland. Interlinked C’s appear in the angles of the shields. On this variant the date appears on the edge in Arabic numerals: 1662. These early Crowns, struck in the first decade of UK milled coinage production, make an excellent point to start collecting. In lower grades they can be purchased without too much difficulty or cost, this type being slightly more scarce. Spink 3351.
