The obverse of these 1988 medals, designed by Frederick J. Mogford, features a portrait of The Right Reverend William Morgan holding a book. The inscription below reads 'YR ESGOB WILLIAM MORGAN'.
The reverse shows a Bible bearing the anniversary dates (1588-1988) over a map of Wales with 'PEDWARCANMLWYDDIANT CYFIEITHU'R BEIBL I'R CYMRAEG' around the edge.
These commemorative medals, struck in 150 grams of solid .925 sterling silver, are hallmarked to the edge and measure 63 millimeters in diameter.
The Royal Mint issued these 400th Anniversary of the First Welsh Bible Translation medals in 1988 in a limited edition of just 500. These pre-owned examples may show signs of tarnishing, typical of silver coins and medals.
