A large scale 2015 reproduction of Benedetto Pistrucci's famous Waterloo Medal, made to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. Fought in modern Belgium, the battle brought the Napoleonic Wars to an end and redrew the map of Europe. Taking decades to design, this Royal Mint medal was intended to be given to the heads of state who appear on the obverse, including King George IV. The reverse shows the Duke of Wellington and Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher on horseback amid various other allegorical figures. This silver plated reproduction medal is from a limited edition of 1,815 produced by the Worcestershire Medal Service and is numbered on the edge. This example is offered in its box of issue with the medal itself sealed in a square acrylic case, secured with screws.

Benedetto Pistrucci designed this medal in the decades after the Battle of Waterloo, fought on 18 June 1815 though it was never struck in the artist's lifetime. The complex allegorical design is regarded as the most impressive to ever grace a British commemorative medal.

The obverse of Pistrucci's Waterloo Medal features busts of four allied leaders: George, Prince Regent, later King George IV, Emperor Francis I of Austria, Tsar Alexander I of Russia and King Frederick William III of Prussia.

Reverse Of The Waterloo Medal

The reverse of the Waterloo Medal shows the figures of the Duke of Wellington and Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher on horseback with Victory between them, surrounded by nineteen serpent-footed giants.
