Number 11 of an issue of just 25, this 1953 gold medal has been graded MS 63 by NGC. This stunning piece was struck for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. No official Royal Mint medal was struck to mark the ceremony, which was held at Westminster Abbey on 2 June. Among the unofficial issues, this is regarded as the standout design. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of the new Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, signed 'P. VINCZE'. Paul Vincze (1907-1994) was a Jewish-Hungarian sculptor and medallist. The reverse features a kneeling woman, watering national flowers (a rose, thistles and shamrocks) from a jug. This medal is numbered and hallmarked to the edge as 18-carat gold and has been highly graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company. A standout piece.
