Set of three medals celebrating an unprecedented year in British history. Three different Kings reigned in 1936. Until late January, George V sat on the throne; he and his consort, Queen Mary, had just celebrated their Silver Jubilee the previous year. Upon his passing, George V was succeeded by his eldest son, Edward VIII. In a dispute over his wish to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson, Edward would abdicate in December, before his coronation. He passed the crown to his younger brother, who would reign as George VI. This historic set features a medal dedicated to each of the three Kings, each struck in copper with a matt finish. The set was produced by Turner & Simpson and comes in an attractive, fitted presentation case. A fascinating relic of a turbulent year for the British royal family.

King George V passed away on 20 January 1936, leaving the crown to his son, who immediately succeeded his father as King Edward VIII. Before his coronation, Edward abdicated the throne, caught between his birthright and his love for a controversial American divorcee. Edwards's decision was formally announced on 11 December, meaning that his younger brother reluctantly became King, reigning as George VI.
