George IV coronation medal in bronze with bust by Antoine Desboeufs. Obverse: left facing profile of the king wearing laurels, tied with long ribbon at neck. Legend around: ‘GEORIUS IV D. G. BRITANNIARUM REX F. D.’. Portrait signed beneath truncation as ‘DESBOEUFS’. Antoine Desboeufs (1793-1862) was a French medallist and gem engraver, better known as a sculptor. This medal was likely struck in France. Reverse: figure of the king, enthroned, holding a sceptre, his other hand on a bible, being crowned by a female figure - identified as Iris - holding caduceus. The design is again signed ‘DESBOEUFS’ with the legend below the figures reading: ‘MENS . JUL . DIE XIX / ANN . MDCCCXXI’. This medal measures 50.00 millimetres in diameter and weighs 62.6 grams.
