Buy Half Guinea George II (1727-1760) United Kingdom Coins
George II was born in Hanover, Germany, to George I and Sophia Dorothea. He had a terrible relationship with his father. When his father was crowned King George I, the younger George and his wife, Caroline, kept a rival court until he became king himself in 1727. He was involved in warfare and even led an army to victory at the Battle of Dettingen when he was 61, but his reign is mostly remembered for the successes of others – he ruled at a time when Britain was gaining control over trade and colonising territories across the globe. He died at the age of 76, leaving the throne to his grandson, George III.
